For years, Katie Mangan Millinery has created hats and headpieces for weddings, race days and special occasions.

Now, for the first time, I’m opening up the studio experience and inviting you to learn some of the techniques behind the pieces.

Whether you’ve always wanted to try millinery, have a headpiece sitting at home that you’d love to reinvent, or simply want to spend a few hours doing something creative, the workshops are designed to be relaxed, inspiring and completely beginner-friendly.

You don’t need any previous experience. Just come with an idea, or simply an interest in learning and I’ll guide you through the rest.

All workshops take place in The Metquarter, Liverpool City Centre.

Millinery Taster Workshop

Approx. 2.5-3 hours

A relaxed introduction to millinery and a perfect place to start.

You’ll learn some of the fundamental techniques used to create and finish contemporary headpieces, experiment with millinery materials and begin creating a piece of your own.

Perfect if you’re curious about millinery but aren’t quite ready to commit to a longer course.

Includes:

Introduction to millinery materials and tools

Basic construction and finishing techniques

Trimming and styling techniques

All core materials

Your own finished piece to take home

 

Rework Your Hat or Headpiece

Approx. 1.5-2 hours

Have a hat or fascinator sitting in the wardrobe that you never wear?

Bring it with you and let’s give it a second life.

Together we can explore changing trims, colour combinations, positioning, feathers, veiling and other details to create something that feels completely different.

A brilliant option if you have an upcoming occasion and want to reuse something you already own.

 

Beginner Millinery Course

4–6 sessions
Starting January 2027

For anyone who wants to go beyond a one-off workshop and properly explore the craft of millinery.

Across the course we’ll work through key techniques gradually, allowing you to build confidence while creating several pieces.

Areas may include:

Understanding millinery materials - Blocking, Wiring, Creating bases, Sinamay techniques, Trims and embellishment, Feathers, Veiling, Finishing techniques, Fit and positioning

No previous experience is required.

Bridal Parties & Private Groups

Approx. 2.5-3 hours

Looking for something different for a bridal party, birthday, hen celebration or group get-together?

Private workshops can be created specifically for your group.

You could make: Fascinators, Veiled headpieces, Bridal party accessories, Occasion headpieces, Coordinating pieces for an upcoming wedding or event

Private group sessions can be tailored according to the size of your group and what you would like to create.

Where?

Workshops will take place in The Met Quarter - Liverpool City Centre in a dedicated creative studio environment.

Who are the workshops for?

Absolutely anyone.

You don’t need sewing experience or any knowledge of millinery.

The workshops are designed for complete beginners, creative people looking to try something new, mothers of the bride or groom, wedding guests, race day lovers and anyone with an interest in fashion, design or learning a traditional creative skill.

They’re also perfect for bridal parties, groups of friends or anyone who simply wants to spend a few hours doing something hands-on and creative.

Places will deliberately be kept limited so there is plenty of individual guidance.

Take-Home Millinery Tool Kit

Everything you need to take part in your workshop will be available in the studio.

If you’d like to continue creating at home, you’ll also have the option to add a Take-Home Millinery Tool Kit to your booking.

The kit will contain a selection of essential millinery tools used during the session and will be yours to take home afterwards.

It’s a simple way to get started without having to work out which tools and equipment you need to buy.
